Universum Digitalis develops customized solutions for data management and distribution. More specific, Universum Digitalis designs solutions for the management of multimedia databases and provides generic data exchange interfaces for distributing data to various client applications. Universum Digitalis targets cultural, touristic industry and more. Universum Digitalis's multimedia platform for museums for example, offers a framework that enables the usage of a mobile device to replace a traditional audio guide. The same backend can also be used to feed a website or interactive information panel. Just like Universum Digitalis' mother department, ETRO/IRIS, the young company pursues the activities of international standards in its domain and applies them in practice.
Nosey Elephant is the music production studio of VUB. It is part of AV Lab, the audiovisual lab of ETRO. We produce quality demos for talented bands that want to promote their projects. Our philosophy is music and sound centric: you need both for great results. For that, we use a selection of fine analogue gear together with ProTools precision and our experience/creativity. All these in a newly build facility, surrounded by the relaxing environment of VUB campus.
JPEG 2000 software: IRIS-JP3D is a functional implementation of Part 1 and Part 10 of the JPEG 2000 standard. It is developed by ETRO and the Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology (IBBT) and available both under commercial and research licences.
